Heartworm Test For Dogs
Heartworm is a parasite, carried by mosquitoes, that lives in the lungs and heart of dogs and cats causing life-threatening damage to both organs. Though heartworm has classically not been considered endemic to Los Angeles County, more cases have been noted in the area since Hurricane Katrina several years ago.
Monthly heartworm preventatives, such as Interceptor or Trifexis, are given monthly to prevent infestation.

Currently we are unable to supply INTERCEPTOR ! Novartis is currently in temporary shortage with this product. We apologize for this inconvenience and will provide an update as soon as this product is available to us.

We recommended testing stray/feral cats before exposing them to household cats.

Pet Microchipping
What is a microchip and how does it work?
A microchip is a small device about the size of a grain
of rice that is implanted beneath your pet's skin. It contains a unique number
used to identify the animal. This number links to your contact information in
an online registry that allows shelters, clinics, veterinarians, and humane
organizations to contact you if your lost pet is found. The microchip itself
does not store your contact information.
A pet microchip is not a GPS or tracking device. You cannot
get information on a lost pet's location directly from the microchip. It is
only when your lost pet is found, scanned, and searched in an online registry
that someone will be able to contact you. This is why it is critical to keep
your contact information current in an online microchip registry. You can
register any brand of microchip, add pets, and update your information for free
in the Found Animals Microchip Registry at www.microchipregistry.foundanimals.org
What type of microchip does 1st Care provide?
1st Care provides pets with Found Animals microchips. Found
Animals microchips are the AVMA-recommended ISO standard, and can be picked up
by all universal scanners. All Found Animals microchips come with free
registration and lifetime updates.
What is the Found Animals Microchip Registry?
The Found Animals Microchip Registry is
a free, nonprofit service dedicated to reuniting lost pets with their families.
By registering your pet's microchip number in the Registry, if your Found Animals Microchip
pet is ever lost and picked up by a humane organization or
individual, you will be contacted via phone, email, and text with information
on where your pet can be found.
www.microchipregistry.foundanimals.org, allowing you and your pet to be happily reunited.
